Update on Site Security

31 October 2019 (by admin)

During the summer holidays we had a secure entry and exit system installed on our main entrances and exits to the school building. This term, we will put this system on the Foundation Stage doors as well.   Thank you for being patient with us whilst we get use to this new system.

This half term, we will also be installing internal telephones in every classroom.  This will improve communication around the school and support our critical incident procedures where we may need to evacuate the children suddenly.

Both the staff and the children have revisited how to keep our school safe and secure. We have also spoken to the children about safety in the community. We would now like to review our procedures with parents and visitors to the school.

If you intend to speak to a teacher or an adult in school, you will need to sign in through the main office. The staff member will see their class out at the end of the day and then collect their signed in visitor from the main office.  If you need to access the school for lost property, you will need to be escorted by a member of staff.

Foundation Stage parents will need to leave via the playground before the gates close at 9.00am.

We have also reviewed Freddies’ Club collection and drop off procedures, as previous procedures have left both staff and pupils vulnerable to unknown adults at times.  The new procedures will be in place from Monday 4th November onward.

Parents using Freddies’ Club will now need to sign their children in and out at the office using the normal forms.   They will not be able to walk through the school to collect their child’s belongings.  A member of Freddies staff will bring the child or children to the office once they have collected their school things.

If parents would like to speak to an adult, please could they ring to make an appointment, or be willing to wait for Miss Shields to become available.

We understand that these procedures might be seen as counter-intuitive to our drive for closer parental engagement, however, as a town school, we need to take site safety seriously.

Please do come and talk to us if you have any concerns or questions about these new procedures.
