Artists required!

We are looking for any parents, family or friends who are artists, craft makers or architects who would be willing to come into school and share their talents with the children. It would be a wonderful opportunity for the children to enjoy learning new skills. If you would like to get involved or would like more information, please leave your details in the office.

School Dinners with Scopay

If you have yet to register for the system please do so as soon as possible, letters went out with all children not registered before half term. If you need another registration letter please let the school office know as they will not be accepting cash payments. Please be aware of the following: As from Monday 13th November all dinners for children in years 3,4,5 and 6 must be paid for in advance online, we cannot accept cash. You can either choose your child’s dinner in advance using the online system , or they can choose in their class when the register is done in the morning. They will not be able to change their mind at lunchtime as the kitchen will only make those dinners that are ordered. If your child comes in late to school please make sure you let the school office know what their lunch choice is. The ScoPay system is currently used for trip payments, Freddie’s club payments and bookings for parent consultations. If you already use the system for any of these then the same system and log in details will be used for school dinners, there is no need to register again. You can visit at www.scopay.com/fairfields or go to the school website www.fairfields.hants.sch.uk and click on the online payment system link.

Thank you very much for bearing with us whilst we have been resolving any technical issues with the System.

Year 4 visit to Living Rainforest

Year 4 had a great time on their visit to the Living Rainforest on Tuesday and their conduct was impeccable. Well done Year 4 and thank you to the team for organising the visit linked to the curriculum.

Fidget Spinners

We have recently seen a new craze take off in the school with the use of Fidget Spinners. We understand that there are children who would benefit from using one of these in class, but only as part of a behaviour or learning plan. We are also aware that it causes unnecessary distractions in class as children are often staring at the fidget spinner they are holding or that the person next to them is spinning. We spoke about this in assembly and explained our concerns including the effects it could have on their hands and wrists if they are constantly spinning an object throughout the day. For that reason we have banned them in school.

Please support us with this by asking your child to leave them at home

PTA

We are looking to revitalise the PTA! You may be aware that school budgets are becoming tighter and so we need to look at other ways for the school to develop non-essential areas of the school. To do this, we will rely on the fundraising efforts of our PTA. Currently, a few parents and Staff members are trying to drive this. Ideally, we need a group of active parents to take this forward. If you are interested, please see Miss Dillon or Mrs Hopkins to discuss this in more detail.

Outside Environment

We have had a really productive week in school. The outside environment has now been revived and we will continue to develop and maintain this over the next year. The new benches have also arrived which were paid for by the money raised through PTA events. These are temporary benches and will be replaced with green and blue ones as soon as these are available. Thank you to everyone who has attended or supported the events; the additional funds are helping to improve the school. We are also excited to announce that lockers have been installed in Years 3-6!

If you can spare any time to help the PTA, please let us know through the school office or see Sarah Deed (Parent in Year 2 and FS).

New scheme for mathematics

We are really excited to announce that the school has recently purchased a new scheme for mathematics. The scheme will help to create more engaging mathematics lessons and will also provide further challenges for all pupils. We have introduced this across the school and will also receive training in September to then use the homework facility within the scheme.

Music and dance assemblies

The children were fabulous and showed confidence and tenacity in all of their performances. We are so proud to have so many children learning instruments in school. Thank you to Tracey Deemer, Adrian Maycock, Andrew Norris and Paul Timms for being part of our school community.

Year 2 trip to Ufton Court

Year 2 loved their trip to Ufton Court and have been retelling how they built a shelter for their bear. We are hoping to continue with this work by developing our own allotment area. If there are any parents interested, please let us know.

Comic Relief Red Nose Day

We raised £746.84 for Comic Relief Red Nose Day through the selling of all our Red Noses and our non-school uniform day. Thank you for all your donations.

Additional Governor needed

Dear Parents and School Community.

We are excited about the future of the school and are looking for an additional Governor to join us. We have recently completed a skills audit and are looking for a non-parent Governor with HR, Marketing or legal skills. If you know anyone who would be interested, please contact Richard Whitechurch via the school office email admin@fairfields.hants.sch.uk.

Red Nose Day

Thank you to the whole school community who supported this event.  The school was swamped with red noses! The Staff performed a dance routine for the children which we hoped they enjoyed.

Shakepeare Week

We had a wonderful week celebrating Shakespeare in the school as part of the National Shakespeare Week.

The children who dressed up looked fabulous and a thank you to all of the parents who tirelessly created shields, dresses and swords for their children. The Staff play went down very well and hopefully the children told you about the funny moments in our version of a Midsummers Night's Dream. Thank you to Mr Stapleton, who wrote the script and organised us!

Young Interpreters win Guardian Public Services Award 2013

YI.jpg

We are very pleased to inform you that the Young Interpreters project won the award for ‘Grassroots Excellence’ at the Guardian Public Service Awards in London last week. The scheme also won the ‘Overall’ winners award. We are very proud of this project which is now being run across Hampshire schools and beyond with the continued support of Hampshire EMTAS. The scheme began at Fairfields Primary School 7 years ago where we created, trialled and improved the project in key stage 2 with the support of Hampshire EMTAS. Our interpreters have also recently been filmed to feature in the training DVD used by other schools. Well done Fairfields! Here is the full report from the Guardian.
