Weekly Update 23 1.3.24

1 March 2024 (by admin)

Dear Fairfields Community,

It was lovely to see so many of you at parents evening this week, and to celebrate with you your child’s achievements. We are so proud of all the children and look forward to seeing them continue to grow as we move through the rest of the school year. Thank you as always for your continued support in helping us to help your children- it is great to work in partnership with you all.

Book Week

Next week is World Book Week. We will be doing a number of activities through the week linked to our love of reading, and we are excited for Friday March 8th, when the children can dress up as their favourite characters in celebration of World Book Day! Your child may want to bring in their favourite book from home on Friday too (please name these). If they prefer, they could join us for the day in onesies or pyjamas as we will be enjoying some stories together. If your child prefers not to dress up, we would ask that they wear their school uniform as usual on this day. Please ensure that your child has sensible footwear for school on Friday, and they are dressed to be able to go outside for break and lunchtime.

Comic Relief (Red Nose Day) Friday 15th March

Friday 15th March is Red Nose Day. We will be taking donations on the gate for this chosen charity which the School Council would like to support. Children can wear red on the day, or non uniform. Around the theme ‘make people laugh’, we will be having a joke telling competition during the afternoon. The School Council will be organising this next week and we will let you know more details.

Eid Celebration

We are looking to organise an Eid al-Fitr celebration on Tuesday 16th April. This is because Eid falls over the Easter holidays this year. To enable us to organise something we are looking for parents who would be happy to help organise and lead the event. If you are interested please contact Miss Harper via the office.

Rugby club

There is no rugby club next week as the year 5 and 6 children are taking part in a match at Rucstall Primary School. If your child is part of the year 5 and 6 rugby team, they should have bought a letter home on Monday about this match. If they can play, please return your form as soon as possible as currently we do not have enough players to take part.

Football

The football trial for year 5 is after school on Wednesday. I should have a form returned by your child if they are going to participate. Please don't send football boots at this stage. The week after will be the first club session of the year.

Times Tables

Well done to year 3 for taking part in the first Top of the Rocks battle in times tables on Tuesday. Six children were very proud to earn a certificate but we need to keep working hard on times tables to challenge the children from other schools.  It is the turn of year 4 next week so I hope they will have a bit of warm up practice over the weekend on TTRockstars!

PTA Updates

Easter Egg Trail - Thursday 28th March

Similar to last year, the PTA would like to invite children to join us for an Easter Egg hunt in the school playground after school (3:15pm-3:45pm) on the last day of term. Each child taking part will be rewarded with an Easter egg (normal or nut/dairy/gluten/soya free) once they complete a few fun themed activities. The cost will be £3 per child and tickets will be on sale in the playground soon where tickets will need to be pre-booked - look out for further announcements.

Children's School Disco - Thursday 23rd May

We are excited to announce our plans to host a school disco onsite ahead of the May half term. In order for this event to go ahead we need to ensure we have sufficient numbers of parent volunteers to assist. Full details including a volunteer sign-up sheet can be found here on the PTA website: https://fairfieldspta.uk/

Updates from year groups

All Year groups

Thank you to all the parents who have attended parents evenings this week - it was great to see you. May we ask, that if you couldn't make it this week, please get in touch with us or with the office so we can arrange a time to meet.

Please can we also ask that you do not leave children unattended on the playground unless they are in year 5 or 6. Children should be stood with you at all times whilst waiting for their class teacher to come and take them into school. Thank you.

FS

It has been a great week in FS with the children working hard! We have enjoyed sharing their successes with you at parents evening. Well done FS!

Year 1

It was great to see so many parents on Wednesday and Thursday evening this week. In school we have enjoyed comparing different animals and creating commands and sequences to move around the classroom and the school.

Year 2

Well done children, we have been very impressed with your kind hands and feet this week. A reminder that our year group assembly is on 11th March at 2.40pm, please see your email for more information. Please continue to return London letters as soon as possible, we are still missing quite a few.

Year 3

Year 3 children have worked very hard this week in the first round of the Times tables competition against local schools. It was lovely to see their concentration and effort during the competition. Well done year 3! We are very proud of you!  Please continue to use TTRockstars at home to help your child to learn their times tables. The next round will take place on Tuesday, 12th March.

Year 4

Year 4 had a super week this week. They enjoyed their science and are keen to know which fizzy drink is the fizziest! They are also enjoying their times table activities- TTRockstars and their speedy 20s! Thank you, parents, for coming to see us in this parents evening. It was great to talk about your children's progress and how well they're doing. If we didn't get to see you, we will try, and meet with you over the next few weeks.  Have a lovely weekend.

Year 5

We have had a great week finishing our alien tripod DT project and exploring the work of Vladimir Kush for our art project. We are still in need of art aprons so please send in any unwanted, clean adult size shirts or T-shirts that you might have at home.

Next Tuesday, as part of our new DT project we will be doing some bread tasting (white, wholemeal, gluten free and tiger bread). If your child has an allergy or if you would like to discuss this with us, please talk to us at the end of the day on the playground.

Year 6

Well done year 6 on a super week- keep up the great work and thank you parents for all your support.
