Weekly Update 15 2023/4

15 December 2023 (by admin)

Dear Fairfields Community

The holidays have finally arrived and I know how much this is needed for the community.  Thank you to everyone for their support and gifts over the last few days.  I will miss all the love and encouragement from everyone at Fairfields.

Since starting at the school, I have made many changes and taken a number of difficult decisions.  At times, the staff have had to follow me without certainty, especially during the pandemic.  I am constantly humbled by their trust and dedication in me and the community.  Without their support, the school would not be where it is today!  Over the last few weeks, the leadership team has transitioned to a new way of working without me.  Being able to witness this is an honour and I am excited about the future of the school under this new leadership!

Thank you to Mrs. Hopkins, for her constant stability and patience.  I am still impressed that she has  managed the transition to Acting Headteacher, as well as organising a farewell I will remember forever!  I will miss her dearly and cannot imagine running a school without her.  I know that exciting times are planned for the future of Fairfields and am keen to continue to support these from afar.  I have full confidence in the leadership team, including Governors, in continuing the journey of Fairfields.

Sing Star Club

Please find attached a letter with information about the Sing Star club starting straight after the holidays.

PTA Updates

As we approach the end of the year we'd like to thank everyone that has supported us this year and helped at events - we couldn't have done this without you. We have raised lots of money for the school, some of which will be evident with the upcoming playground improvements that the PTA have contributed to through money raised at events.

Another thank you for the Christmas Fair which took place on Thursday and was a massive success. We hope that those people that were able to come and enjoy the activities with their children had a great time too. A special shout out to both Ulrike & Peach who have given up many weeks of their own time to do a great deal of the organising behind the scenes to put this together - they have worked wonders in planning this event which has been invaluable so thank you very much. We appreciate the help of everyone however big or small for contributing to make this event run smoothly, so thank you to everyone involved.

Please find attached a list of the raffle winners (apologies for any spelling errors in the names) - congratulations to you all. Prizes that weren't collected at the fair can be claimed at the office.

Our final message for this year is one of thanks and sadness around the departure of Miss Dillon to pastures new. The support she has give the PTA has been nothing short of amazing so we will miss her dearly, but want to wish her all the success in her new role.

We wish everyone a safe and Merry Christmas and look forward to your support in 2024.

Updates from Year Groups

Foundation Stage

We would like to say a huge well done to Foundation Stage for their first term at school. We wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Year 1

We have had a fantastic first term in year 1. A big well done to all the children for their hard work. Over the holidays, try to read with your children and enjoy spending time together. We wish you all a very Merry Christmas and look forward to seeing you in the new Year.

The Year 1 Team

Year 2

Year 2 have had a great week. They have been looking at multiplication and place value in Maths and have really enjoyed it. The children have looked at the concept of 'light' in RE and how this is special to both Christians and Hindus. In History the children created some fantastic fact files all about the Titanic

Year 3

Thank you to everyone who came to our presentation this week.  Just a reminder to parents that on Wednesday 3rd January ( first day back after Christmas), Year 3 will be going on a local area visit to explore historical features of Basingstoke. We would be thankful if you could send your child with a waterproof coat in case of rain and comfortable shoes, suitable for walking. We will be back in school for lunchtime so there will be no change to the usual lunch arrangements. Thank you to the parents who have volunteered to help. Your help is greatly appreciated.

Year 4

Year 4 have worked very hard this week on their DT sewing projects and RE.

Our PE day is changing to a Wednesday (the first day back) so please can the children please wear PE kit on Wednesday from now on, including the first day back.

Thank you for all your support this term. Have a lovely Christmas holiday and we will see you in the new year.

Year 5

Well done to year 5 for a fantastic assembly!  It was really impressive and reflected the rich curriculum taught in the school. Thank you to the parents for the huge turnout.

Thank you to everyone who came to our Assembly on Monday, we were thrilled to see so many of you.  We have had a busy week in Year 5 this week.  The children have really showed the Schools’ values with working hard and celebrating their achievements.

Year 6

Thank you to Y6 parents who visited classrooms to see pupils outcomes for our 'Contrasts' topic  - it was great to share with you what we have been working on. In January, we will be running bikeability sessions and more information will be sent to you in the new year, however please return your consent forms if they are outstanding. Best wishes from the Year 6 team and a happy new year!
