Weekly Update 14 2023/4

10 December 2023 (by admin)

Dear Fairfields Community

We have had a fantastic week in school, finishing with the Foundation Stage production of the Gigantic Star.  The children were amazing and showed how well they have settled into the first term in school.  Thank you to the staff for all their hard work – it was well received by the parents and Year 6 pupils.  Thank you also to the parents for continuing to support their children since September.

We are also happy to announce that Mrs. Bogalski has been appointed as Acting Deputy Headteacher from January.  Mrs Perkins and Mrs. Rowbak will teach Warsaw until the end of the year.  Mrs. Perkins will teach on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday afternoon.  Mrs. Rowbak will teach the class Wednesday morning, Thursday and Friday.  Both teachers have worked in the school for several years and know our systems well.  We will organise a time for parents to meet both teachers in January.  Mrs. Bogalski will continue to have an overview of the class as Acting Deputy.

Headlice

We have noticed a number of children coming into school with headlice.  Please could everyone check their child’s hair over the Christmas period if possible.  We can then start the new year lice-free!

Mental Health Support

Please find attached the monthly newsletter from the Mental Health Support Team. This month's update talks about the 5 Ways to Wellbeing which is a programme we will be rolling out to staff, pupils and parents in the New Year, so please keep an eye out for more information.

Message from Spotlight UK

On Christmas Eve, in the afternoon from around 3.30pm until around 6pm we have a big food giveaway including fruit and veg and meat from Ocado at Hatch Warren Infants school in Basingstoke.

Last year we supported over 500 families and hope to do the same again.

If you have families who could benefit please nominate them by sending us a list of names and then asking the families to complete the form below.  Ideally this is for people to come and pick up the food however we do have a limited number of drivers who will deliver.

Once the food is ready we will ping a text to families to come and collect.

PTA Updates

Christmas Fair - Thursday 14 December

The Christmas Fair is almost here, so here are some final pieces of information.

The event runs at school from 4:30-7:30pm. We will see performances from all year groups, as well as the choir, orchestra, Sing Star, Drama Club and the Basingstoke Tappers and will finish with the raffle prize draw in the main hall. There will be a number of activity stalls for children to enjoy as well as some external stalls selling different gifts, so loads to see and do, including a visit from Father Christmas.

We would massively appreciate any last minute offers of help so if you can volunteer on the day then please sign-up here: https://fairfieldspta.uk/christmas-fair-volunteer-signup/

Online sales will only be available until Sunday via the following link: https://fairfieldspta.uk/product-category/christmas-fair/. Please remember that there will be no sales on the day for Santa's grotto or hot dogs so this is your last chance to purchase. For those people that do purchase online over the weekend, you'll need to collect your tickets from the token sale table on the day.

Please return any sold raffle tickets via the playground black boxes or give to a member of the PTA. There are some fantastic prizes to be won so don't miss out - tickets are £1 each.

We really look forward to seeing everyone on Thursday for what promises to be a fantastic event - thank you to everyone who has helped so far with the planning and preparation as well as those people that have offered to help on the day. We couldn't do this without you.

Updates from Year Groups

Foundation Stage

We are so proud of the children for their performance of the Gigantic Star.  Thank you so much for supporting them.

Year 1

This week will be the last week we give out homework before the Christmas holidays.

We are collecting in library books, please make sure your child brings theirs in next week if they haven't already been collected in.

Year 2

We are already busy planning for the Spring term! On the first day back we will be making Tudor houses as part of our WOW start for the Great Fire of London topic. Please could we ask you to hold onto any medium sized boxes you may obtain over Christmas so that we can  use these to build our houses on the first day back. We are happy to take any that you have now before the holidays. Thank you.

Year 3

We have been working really hard in year 3 over the term and have created some stunning pieces of work linked to our science topic. This is on top of the most amazing work on the Romans and volcanoes. Please don't forget that we have invited parents into school on Wednesday 13th December at 2:40pm to come and take part in our science celebration. There was an email sent out last week with all the information. Thank you so much to the parents who have volunteered to come on the local visit in January, we really appreciate you. We are still looking for more volunteers for this visit. Please complete the volunteer slip on the letter and return it to a class teacher if you can come and support. Thank you!
