Weekly Update 12 2023/424 November 2023 (by admin) |
Dear Fairfields Community
We have really enjoyed this week on the lead up to Christmas preparations. Year 4 had a fantastic time at Butser Farm, where they made their own Anglo-Saxon quill pen and became archaeologists to dig for significant artefacts.
As part of our working on keeping children safe, we have a duty to practice an evacuation of the building each half term. When reviewing the critical incident plan for the school, we booked a planned lockdown to ensure that we can secure the building with the children inside. Well done to the whole school for their work in response to the practice lockdown that took place on Tuesday afternoon.
Children In Need
School Council are pleased to announce that they raised £201.17 for Children in Need. Thank you to everyone who donated money towards this cause.
Parent Workshop on Mental Health
Please see attached (not School Jotter) information on the Mental Health Support Teams December parent workshop which is accessible to any parents and carers who may find it useful. The focus of the session is to support how to recognise distress, how it may present in young people and how to respond in the moment. Please see the attached flyer for more details about how to access the session.
Free activities for parents and children
Please find attached (not School Jotter) a poster for the free Christmas activities we have available at Basingstoke Discovery Centre for children in receipt of free school meals.
Please also find attached (not School Jotter) information for parents with regards to a budgeting Christmas dinner workshop.
Netball Update
The netball team played their second league match at the end of last week against St. Johns. Despite St. Johns winning, we scored our first league match goal (well done Eymen) and the team, and Mrs Hopkins, were very proud! The resilience the team showed throughout the whole match was incredible and each quarter, they improved more. Well done Fairfields! Great teamwork.
Boot Camp sessions for children
Please find attached (not School Jotter) information about a bootcamp session with Sarah and Steve.
Guitar and Ukulele Lessons
We have a few spaces that have become available for children to learn to play the guitar or ukulele. Please find attached (not School Jotter) information about the lessons.
PTA Updates
Christmas Fair - Thursday 14 December
The Christmas Fair is now only 3 weeks away and we still very much need your support so if you're able to volunteer (or perhaps even have an older child that can help on a stall) then please sign-up here: https://fairfieldspta.uk/christmas-fair-volunteer-signup/.
Tickets for Santa's grotto and hotdogs (including vegan) need to be purchased ahead of the event so that we know numbers. You can either purchase online or wait for future playground ticket sales. The early-bird offer for activity tokens is also in place until the end of November so why not take advantage of this. Please click here if you would like to make on-line purchases: https://fairfieldspta.uk/product-category/christmas-fair/
There will also be a raffle, with some great prizes already donated and a top prize of £100. For anyone who would like some more raffle tickets, these can either be collected from the school office, a member of the PTA or at one of our playground ticket sale days, else drop us an email and we can get some to you. Please remember to return your unused tickets or the stubs and cash in an envelope and post in the school black post boxes.
If you can help with anything or just want to find out more without committing then please email us directly at fairfieldspta@gmail.com.
