Weekly Update 11 2023/4

18 November 2023 (by admin)

Dear Fairfields Community

It has been a busy week with the wonderful Diwali celebrations, Anti-bullying activities and NSPCC workshops.  Thank you for being part of the Diwali celebrations - if you were able to attend. It was amazing to see how much work had been put into the performances by the children and thank you to the parents who coordinated this themselves!  We are so proud to be part of such a supportive community!

Children In Need

Apologies for the confusion over Children in Need day.  We moved it to Monday due to the number of events happening this week.  Your child is invited to come into school on Monday wearing spotty or yellow clothing or accessories alongside their normal school uniform.  For example, if they are wearing a spotty T-shirt, please can they still wear school trousers and shoes.  Year 4 children will be on their trip but can still wear spots as we will put them in hi-vis.

School Council pupils will collect money in buckets in the morning and at the end of the day.

Sunflower Hub

The Sunflower Hub in the Cabin will be open for Free Refreshments for Parents/Carers from 20th Nov.23.

Monday Mornings after Drop Off 8.40am and Friday Afternoons before Pick up 245pm.

Everyone is Welcome

Remembrance Day

Thank you to Sochi and Penelope for presenting the wreath on behalf of the school for Remembrance Day.  And well done to the children who took part as part of an organisation outside of school.

Rugby Update

We have made the decision to trial Year 3 pupils joining the tag rugby training on Thursdays 3:15 – 4pm.  If your child is interested in joining, please do email admin@fairfields.hants.sch.uk.  They will need to come into school wearing PE uniform on the day and bring football or rugby boots in a separate bag if they have them.  We are also looking for any girls in Years 5 and 6 to join!

Message from Spotlight UK

Thanks to the money raised in their charity shop in town, they are able to offer subsidised activities to local children and families as per the attached poster (not in jotter).

Snow and Ice Planning

In preparation for the winter weather, we have updated our snow and ice plan.  Please find attached (not in jotter) the guidance for driving in icy conditions and also information for parents.

PTA Updates

Christmas Fair - Thursday 14 December

Volunteers - we still need some more help with this event so please sign-up here if you can volunteer: https://fairfieldspta.uk/christmas-fair-volunteer-signup/. If we don't get more volunteers then we will need to make difficult decisions to scale down what we have planned so please consider helping us.

Token sale - we will be outside the canopy area in the playground on Friday 24th November before and after school to sell tokens, santa grotto and hot dog (including vegan) tokens. Tickets for Santa's grotto and hotdogs need to be purchased ahead of the event so that we know numbers but why not take advantage of the early bird activity token offer too. We will have raffle tickets available also for anyone that would like to purchase more or take books away to sell.

Raffle tickets - your child should have come home with an envelope containing one book of Christmas raffle tickets to sell. There are some great prizes again this year with a £100 top prize and donations from companies such as Hollywood Bowl, Gabardine Bar, Basingstoke Sports Centre, Stagecoach, Bombay Sapphire, Amazon vouchers and loads more. If anyone has any contacts with local businesses who might be able to provide us with a prize it would be a great help. Last year we had over 80 prizes so we're hoping for the same this year. Please return stubs and money or unsold tickets in the envelope provided using the black mailbox in the playground rather than throw away as these can be resold. If you are able to sell more tickets then please either ask at reception or come and see us at one of the Christmas Fair token sales in the playground.

If you can help with anything or just want to find out more without committing then please email us directly at fairfieldspta@gmail.com.
