URGENT - Near miss

18 July 2023 (by admin)

This morning a parent reported that her child was nearly hit by a car when crossing the road.  The incident took place on Victoria Street and she had to move into the road to pull her daughter back out of the way.  Whilst on the road, she was then confronted by another driver who revved his engine and picked up speed, aiming towards her.

Both her and her daughter were extremely distressed by this.  I have advised her to contact the Police and to give a description of both cars.    If anyone saw this taking place, please could they contact the school as a witness to the incident.

Please could I ask that as a community we work together to avoid putting any parents or children in danger.  I have had reports of parents not using car seats and understand that some parents who see this are reporting it to the police as well.

To keep our community safe, please remember:

You should not park on the yellow zig-zag lines outside of the school.  This must not be used as a stop and drop zone.

Only pupils in Years 5 and 6 can be left unattended in the playground and we will contact parents if younger children are left as this is a safeguarding issue.

Children in years 5 and 6 must not be left in charge of younger children also.

Children using bikes or scooters must always wear a helmet.

Finally, please do take care when driving and parking near the school as there are young children walking to school.
