Update on School Opening

2 January 2021 (by admin)

Dear Parents and members of the school community,

I hope you have managed to have an enjoyable break despite everything that is going on at the moment.

As you will have heard, while secondary schools are remaining closed for the next two weeks, the Secretary of State for Education has announced that primary schools in our region will remain open.

We are currently reviewing our risk assessment accordingly and are in discussion with staff and governors.

At present, Fairfields will begin the new term on Tuesday 5th January 2021 and I will inform you if anything changes.

A reminder that Monday 4th January 2021 is an INSET day.

Keeping children, staff and parents safe last term was a challenge and as the situation with the virus has only worsened over the holiday period, we foresee that it will be even more challenging this term.

We ask that:

  • Parents try to now wear face masks in the school playground
  • Please ensure hand hygiene procedures are followed at all times
  • Please ensure strict social distancing is adhered to by all adults
  • If you or your child is feeling unwell please do not send them to school
  • Please limit only one parent or carer to drop off or pick up at any time.

If you or someone in your family has had Covid over the holiday, please ensure that your isolation period is fully completed. I hope you have all remained well but if this is not the case please email the school by Monday.

In the event of a Government announcement regarding whole school closures

If the government changes its policy and primary schools are asked to close for a period of time, the children will switch to remote learning via Zoom.

The school would remain open to vulnerable children and children of key workers.

Parents of children classed as vulnerable will be contacted directly by the school.

As a precaution we need to update our record of Key Worker children.

If you come under this category, and have no other parent or carer at home, please email the school at admin@fairfields.hants.sch.uk, stating:

  1. your child's name
  2. your occupation
  3. whether you would require your child to be in school all week or selected days.
  4. Please could you also provide a letter from your employer confirming that you have to attend the workplace for the days you have asked for your child to be in school.

A reminder that these children will also be following the remote learning work set by their teacher. They will not necessarily be taught directly by their usual class teacher and will be in class together as a new bubble.

As ever, we will endeavour to do the very best for your children, keeping them as safe as we can and ensuring that they continue high quality learning.

We will also do everything we can to ensure our staff and parents are safe too.

Take care and unless we hear otherwise, I look forward to seeing you on Tuesday.

 Best wishes

Miss Kelly Dillon
