About Us

Opened in 1887, Fairfields Primary is the oldest school in Basingstoke, Hampshire. Parents, grandparents and great grandparents all have fond memories of their time at our school.

Everything that we do is based on our four Core Values; Love, Respect, Honesty and Celebration. Our aim is develop resilient and confident children who are highly skilled and able to adapt to an ever changing landscape. These are also outlined below.  For that reason, we have written a unique curriculum based on real experiences and high quality literature.

The pupils at our school play a huge part in school improvement.  Our School Council consists of pupils in every year group who are voted in by their peers and who help to shape the direction of the school. Please see our School Council page with updates of their latest priorities.

Finally, we work closely with parents who have taken the decision to invest in our school by enrolling their children. We believe that parents are the most crucial element of providing an effective team around a child and we therefore expect them to be involved in school life, at every level.

Our Vision

To prepare the children of today to thrive and meet the challenges of tomorrow, by developing independence and resilience through a forward thinking and evolving curriculum, proudly reflecting our diverse community, inspiring and celebrating all achievements.

Our Mission

We are a vibrant, diverse and inclusive community, fostering a culture of learning and resilience, through a creative and pupil-centered curriculum where children are encouraged to take risks and learn from their mistakes, all within a supportive environment.

Our Ethos
  1. All members of the school community will treat each other with mutual respect,
  2. All children to be supported and challenged to achieve the best that they can which will be celebrated by the school community,
  3. All children will enjoy an exciting and inspiring educational experience,
  4. All children will understand how they can show love towards members of their community and have access to a safe and secure learning environment and good quality pastoral care,
  5. All children will develop the skills that will enable them to be successful citizens in a modern world. This includes being an honest citizen,
  6. All children will recognise their value within, and contribution to their local, national and international communities as global citizens.
  7. All members of the school community, pupils, parents and staff, will feel a sense of belonging at the school.

Each year we develop an action plan to improve areas identified from a range of information including performance data.  Please visit our 'School Development Priorities' page under the 'Parents' tab on the website to learn about our school development plan for this year and the review of last year.

School Heatwave Arrangements
22/06/2026 5:00 PM
Dear parents and carers,

The temperatures for the week are increasing, particularly in the afternoons. Guidance from Hampshire is that schools can remain open, and we will let you know as soon as possible if this changes at all. I will not close the school unless I am told we have to.

After talking to the Basingstoke primary schools network, many of the schools have now decided to put in place an optional early finish for pupils on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday afternoon, which we will also offer.
Foundation Stage and year 1 and 2 pupils can be picked up, if you would like to, at 1.05pm on any of those days. Years 3, 4, 5 and 6 can be collected, if you wish to, at 1.15pm on any of these days.

I want to reiterate that this is optional. School will be open all day as normal and all school staff will be in school as normal.
If you are wanting to collect your child at these times, due to your concerns about the weather, please click the following links to complete the forms. There is one form for each day (Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday) and each form must be completed by 12.00pm on the day if you wish to take your child home so that we can prepare a register and bring the correct children to the playground after lunch for collection.

Pick up early on 23rd June 2026 – Fill out form
Pick up early on 24th June 2026 – Fill out form
Pick up early on 25th June 2026 – Fill out form

Please note, if you do not complete the form by 12.00pm on each day, you may need to wait until all the children who are leaving are dismissed before your child is brought down to you. This is due to the logistics of us not having external classroom doors.

If your child is in years 5 or 6 and you want them to walk home at 1.15pm, you will need to state this on the form, otherwise we will not send them home until 3.15pm for safeguarding reasons.

ACE after school club is running as normal, with adaptations in place.

Will we be continuing, throughout the day, to keep the children as cool as possible with blinds shut, lights off where we can, windows open and lots of hydration breaks. We will keep the children using the shady spaces outside during any outdoor time, and we have replaced the normal PE lessons with other learning. Children can continue to wear PE kit to school if they are more comfortable in this. Please also remember to bring in a named water bottle and hat each day, and apply cream to your child before the school day.

Thank you for your continued support and just to reiterate that the school is open all day, with all staff in school, and that these arrangements are optional.

Kind regards
