Weekly Update 1 2023/24

4 September 2023 (by admin)

Dear Fairfields Community

I hope you have had a wonderful summer and are looking forward to the return to school!  The last two training days have been used to update ourselves on the latest changes in relation to safeguarding as well as thinking about the future of Fairfields.  We will be holding two sessions to share with parents the School Development Plan for this year.  Please do come along to either the face-to-face meeting on Friday 29th September between 9 – 10am or email the school to attend the online meeting on Wednesday 4th October 6-7pm via Microsoft Teams.

We are excited to have launched our new approach for teaching mathematics and look forward to sharing this with you this term.  From next week we will begin our journey using Ark Mastery Mathematics approach.   If you would like to read more about this, please visit: https://www.arkcurriculumplus.org.uk/impact/mathematics-mastery-primary.  We will soon be putting together a series of workshops for parents to attend to learn more about this.

Reinforced Autoclaved Aerated Concrete (RAAC)

You may have seen recent media coverage regarding Reinforced Autoclaved Aerated Concrete (RAAC) and its use in educational settings. RAAC is a lightweight form of concrete; because it is weaker than regular concrete, concerns have been raised about its long-term durability. Department for Education (DfE) has recently changed its guidance to education settings on the management of RAAC to take a more precautionary approach and as a result areas in affected spaces will be vacated.

We wanted to inform you that we are not affected by this decision as we do not have RAAC in any of our buildings and therefore they will continue to function as normal. We understand that parents may want to understand more about the support to educational settings to manage RAAC safely. You can read more through the article published by the DfE on the Education Hub.
