Weekly Update 25

1 May 2023 (by admin)

Dear Parents and carers,

I hope that you have enjoyed the extended weekend and have managed to spend some time outside to enjoy the warmer weather. Last week was fantastic with the children all working hard to prepare for our coronation celebration.

You are invited to attend the event on Friday 5Th May. Please arrive between 1:50 and 2:05pm.  The gates will then be locked and the parade will then take place, covering a route around the playground and finishing in the green smooga area for the finale song. There will be performances by both choir and the whole school for everyone to watch.  The event will finish by 3pm and the children will then go back into school to collect their home-time things.

Please note if you arrive after 2:05pm you will not be able to get into the playground.  For safety reasons, we must lock the gates whilst the parade is in process.  Both the top and bottom gate will be unlocked for parents to access the site from 1:50 - 2:05pm only.

Children are also invited to wear red, white or blue on Friday or they can wear their costume if they have one!

Stike Day Reminder

As mentioned in the last update, the NEU have announced two days of industrial action on Thursday 27th April and Tuesday 2nd May.  After careful consideration we have made the decision to again proritise the Year 6 classes and will also be open to classes where the teachers are not taking industrial action.  Unfortunately, we will not know this until 7:45am on the day.  We will send an email at this time to confirm which classes are open. If your child’s class is closed on the day, you will be able to access learning via the Oak National Academy:  All subjects by key stage - Oak National Academy (thenational.academy)

We understand that this does not give a lot of notice and that you may want to make alternative arrangements for childcare.  For this reason, attendance on this day is non-compulsory.

Eco Committee Community Planting

Our Eco Committee took part in a local community project on Tuesday afternoon. They helped plant the community garden outside Marks and Spencers in town. They learnt about different plants and were given a sunflower seed to plant and take home. Thank you To Mr Pearce who volunteered on this day and helped to walk the children down to the town centre.

Parenting Support

We know how challenging parenting can be at times, especially in a world so different to how we grew up. Parents are invited to have coffee in the cabin on a Monday morning at drop off time and to share any advice they have or to also ask for ideas. We have noticed that a number of the younger pupils’ parents could feel isolated due to their child starting school in a period of lockdown.

We recognise that the traditional ‘playdate’ has the potential to become extinct due to new technology and online gaming. For that reason, we would like to challenge parents to arrange a play date in the summer term. We can support this introduction through a trial of open afternoons aimed at parents in Foundation Stage, Year 1 and Year 2.

Parents and carers will be invited into school between 2-3pm to join in the lessons and to see lessons in older parts of the school. We will provide refreshments under the canopy for parents as well.

The dates for these are as follows:

Wednesday 7th June – Year 1

Wednesday 14th June – Foundation Stage

Wednesday 21st June – Year 2

We hope that you will come and visit us on this day.

Have a great remainder of the weekend!

Miss Kelly Dillon
