Weekly Update 19

24 February 2023 (by admin)

Dear parents

It has been a fantastic first week back with the early signs of Book Week preparations beginning to show. Book Week will take place next week; with a focus on a love of reading and books in general!

Children are invited to take part in dress up day on Friday 3rd March. They can dress as a character from a book for the whole day. We have also sent home the Sponsored Reading Challenge which is also taking place. If you child has not brought a challenge letter home, please let us know and we will give them another one.

Strike Day update and Parents Evening

As outlined in the email sent on the 20th January, teachers across the country will be taking industrial action and striking on Thursday 2nd March. We have reviewed all of the options available to us in the school and have made the decision to be closed to all pupils apart from those in Year 6. This is because Year 6 pupils have their exams this year and we want to give them the best possible chance to be ready for Secondary School.

Mrs Hopkins and Miss Dillon will provide online lessons for pupils to take part in and packs will be sent out next week.

For this reason, we have made the decision to move Parents Evening to the 7th and 8th of March. These will all be face to face appointments. Please logon to SCOPAY to book your appointment from 6pm this evening. Due to strike action and parents evening. There will be no clubs taking place for the next two weeks.

Netball News

The year 6 netball team played in a cluster school tournament on Monday against Rucstall, St. Mary's Junior and Great Binfields schools. They played 9 matches in total, winning 3, drawing 2 and losing 4. The team played incredibly and we are so proud to say that they scored enough points to come second overall in the tournament, and are now entered into the Basingstoke finals against the other cluster school winners across Basingstoke. This tournament will be played later in the term and we will let you know how they get on.

Well done to all of the team. They have worked so hard since September training began to learn the game, and were an absolute credit to the school with their superb sportmanship on the day too. Great work Fairfields!

Finally, we are looking to raise funds to support our community who have family in Turkey or Syria. Fatima in year 6 has suggested that we have a non-school uniform day on the 8th March and that children dress in red, white or black and invite donations from anyone who is able. School Council will stand near the gates on the day with buckets to collect any donations. We are interested to hear from members of our community if they have ways that we can support their family in Turkey or Syria using the money raised. Please let us know by emailing admin@fairfields.hants.sch.uk.

Have a wonderful weekend.
