Weekly Update 18

10 February 2023 (by admin)

Dear parents and carers,

We have made it through the term and have so much to celebrate!

This week has been Children’s Mental health Week.  The children have been able to take part in activities throughout the week, as well as at lunchtime and after school.  Thank you to Tracey, Sarah and Steve for providing sessions afterschool for everyone.

The FS children had a wonderful trip to the Proteus Creation Space to see 'Burglar Bill.'  All the children really engaged with the story and characters.  They especially liked the cat and baby and also enjoyed joining in with the singing.

Year 3 and 6 enjoyed sharing their work with parents this afternoon and we look forward to more of these opportunities throughout the year.

We have also been learning about National Internet Safety day which was on Tuesday.  Mr Hewlett led an assembly to remind the children about being safe online.

Book Week reminder – W/beginning 27th February.

We will be celebrating Book Week as a whole school with children able to dress up on Friday 3rd March.  The main activities for the week include a book corner competition across the school, book sharing across year groups and a sponsored reading challenge at home.  Please do look out for further information which will come home the first week back.

Parenting Tips – Digitally Distracted Parents

There is a huge amount of focus on the impact of digitally distracted parents.  There is now also an official name for this – Phubbing: the act of phone snubbing or favouring your phone over a person.  You may have seen in the media where schools have banned phones in the playground so that children can be greeted with real eye contact.

At Fairfields, we have no strong opinions on this, but we have noticed an increase in the number of parents who are on their phones in the playground.

The main things to consider are:

  • How many minutes after pick-up do you give to your children without being on the phone?
  • Does your child ever complain about you not giving them your full attention due to you being on your phone?
  • Do you ever find yourself standing still in the middle of a room and when you look up from your phone, your children created chaos around you?

There is a balance to had and being aware is the most important thing.

Finally, have a wonderful half term and we will see you back to school on Monday 20th February.
