Weekly Update 14

8 January 2023 (by admin)

Dear parents and carers,

We have had a fantastic first week back to school.  I hope the children have shared some of the experiences they have had to launch into their new topics.

I have been talking to the children about the word ‘optimism’ in our assemblies.  We looked at some incredible people with a disability and how they have achieved astonishing things through positive thinking and a ‘can do’ attitude.  I have challenged them to think ‘I can’ instead of ‘I can’t’ as part of their new year resolution.  We talked about how difficult that can be at times and that sometimes we may need to give things a go instead of avoiding them.

Please do discuss this with your child and let us know by email if they have been able to show this at home!

Chinese New Year celebration

Miss Harper is putting together plans for the Chinese New Year celebration on the Monday 23rd January.  If you are able to help with this event, please let Miss Harper know through the school office.  We hope that you can join us!

School Council Toy Sale

School Council pupils are planning to hold a toy sale in the playground after school on Friday 20th January.  We are looking for any donations of used toys for this.  This will be a time to recycle any toys in good condition if you have any at home.

Please could these be brought into school any day next week: pupils will be organising them to sell for 10p - £2.

The money raised, will go towards the replacement of the playground equipment.

Sports Update

We are really excited about the increasing sporting opportunities we have in the school thanks to the continuing work of Miss Warwick, Mr Thorpe, Miss Bradley, Mrs Hopkins, Mrs Roe-Gilby and Mr Mardell.  We will be making use of the school field to practice and are asking for any donations of football boots for the players to use.  If you do have spare boots, size 3 and upwards, we would really appreciate them!

Top Tips for Parents

Routines are always tricky to maintain especially after a holiday, where each day may have been different.  Especially over the Christmas holidays where travel and celebrations have taken place.

Have you managed to get the after school routine back?  It really is a struggle and we do appreciate that!  If you find that your child is becoming irritable or challenging, this could be a factor.

If bedtimes have not yet been fully restored, please remember that we would recommend that children do not use electronic devices, including TV, at least an hour before bedtime.  Also consider that school-aged children need between 9-13 hours of sleep a day.

Finally, please do keep an eye of the calendar and stay connected through the Jotter APP or via the news section on the website.  This term is always a busy one with Children’s Mental Health Week, Science Week and Book Week.

Have a great rest of your weekend!
