It's nearly the start of the year!

4 September 2022 (by admin)

Dear parents and carers,

We are in the final countdown before the start of the new academic year and it is likely that both you and your children have mixed feelings of both excitement and anticipation.   We were in school on Thursday and Friday last week and are looking forward to seeing both you!

On Thursday, many of the staff participated in first aid training which included how to perform CPR on both adults and children.  On Friday we created the school development plan for this year and also had training on how to deliver the new spelling scheme which will be launched in Years 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6.  This means that a daily spelling lesson will take place each morning at 9am for fifteen minutes for pupils in these year groups.  Pupils will be set on spelling ability across Years 3 and 4, 5 and 6.

To help with this, it is crucial that your child attend school on time and does not miss their spelling lesson.  The school start times and finish times are as follows:

Foundation Stage, Year 1 and 2: 8:40am start and 3:10pm finish

Years 3,4,5 and 6: 8:50am start and 3:20pm finish.

Although we will be reviewing these times in response to the parent survey, this will rely on anyone parking near the school to leave promptly to allow for other parents to use the space and not cause traffic to build up around the school.  This is something we will continue to look at during the first term as the weather changes.

The drop off and collection zones are in the following places:

Foundation Stage: Foundation Stage Garden

Year 1: Under the canopy – please make sure that parents stay out of the canopy area.  This is for children only.

Year 2: On the bottom playground next to the sports area and cabin.

Year 3: Under the canopy – please make sure that parents stay out of the canopy area.  This is for children only.

Year 4: Top playground by the table tennis table.

Year 5: Top playground near Sarah’s garden

Year 6: On the bottom playground next to the sports area and cabin.  These children will use the breakfast club door to enter the building.

Please note that only children in Years 5 and 6 should be left unattended in the playground.

PE Uniform

The PE uniform from Liss Sport will be delivered on Tuesday.  This will come home with your child on that day.  We will not be running PE lessons on the first two days.  Instead, teachers will be training pupils on how to use the playground equipment safely and ensuring that pupils know a range of games to play during their breaktimes.

Medical Needs

Please can we ask that if your child needs an inhaler or auto-injector pen in school, that they bring it in on the first day.  We are going to move to an electronic health care plan over the next few weeks and will need to ensure that the children bring any medication that they may need, into school.

Finally, I look forward to seeing you all back to school tomorrow and also welcoming our new Foundation Stage pupils.  The Foundation Stage staff have really enjoyed visiting the children at home before the holidays and hopefully they are excited to start as well.  We will have tea and coffee available in the Cabin for parents to come and chat with us after drop-off.  Please do come and see Terri, Mrs Hopkins and me there.

Enjoy the last few hours of your holidays!
