Weekly Update 25

10 June 2022 (by admin)

Dear parents and carers,

It has been a fantastic week in the school with the children returning in high spirits!  Well done to the Year 1 children who have been assessed on their phonics this week.  We are so pleased with how well they have done!  Thank you to the whole team and parents for supporting the children with reading and learning sounds at home.  Parents will receive their results once the pass mark is released.

We have also been moderated by the Local Authority this week.  Two moderators reviewed our judgements of writing by year 6 pupils.  They agreed with our judgements and we will soon be able to share these with the parents when the other results are received.  Well done to the Year 6 team and to the parents for working so hard with the children at home and at school.

Cash4Clothes for School and Uniform swap

The PTA have arranged for the collection of clothes in bags, by an external company, on Monday morning next week.  Please bring the good quality clothing to the top playground before school.  This will then be collected.

We will also be arranging a uniform swap on Sports Day (23rd June).  To help with this, please send in any clean and good condition uniform items (including shoes and trainers) between Tuesday 14th and Friday 17th June.  These will then be sorted and placed out on tables on Sports Day for parents for free.

Headlice

We continue to have reports of head lice in the school.  This also includes pupils in Year 6!  Please can you check your child’s hair over the weekend.  If you do find any lice or eggs, continue to check and remove them every 5 days until they are clear.

First Aid procedures

You may have received an email and note with details of first aid treatment on your child.  Following a review of our procedures, we have introduced an improved system for communicating first aid to parents.

All parents of pupils who have had an accident at school will receive an email at the end of the day and a letter.  If the injury is serious we will call parents.  If the accident is a head injury – a text will be sent.  Please ensure that we have your up-to-date details.

Sports Day – Thursday 23rd June

Sports Day is on the 23rd June with a backup day on the 24th June.  Please see the letter your child has brought home today.

Please also note that PE uniform can be worn all week as stated in the letter.  This does mean black or dark blue or grey tracksuit bottoms or shorts and a white t-shirt or the PE uniform.  The official PE T-shirt will become compulsory from September 2022.  Orders need to be placed by the 16th July to be sent to school by the start of term.  To order, please visit: https://www.lisssport.co.uk/Fairfields

Diversity Festival/ Summer Fair – Monday 4th July 3:30 – 6pm

We are planning to hold a joint Diversity Festival and Summer Fair this year.  This is largely due to limited time over the short term and a lack of volunteers.  Please look out for the information which will be sent out next week.

We can help!

We know how challenging it is with the cost of living at the moment.  The rise in energy prices has meant that many families are at their financial limit.  We are able to access grants for food, replacement of electrical essentials, energy bills and clothing.  If you need help with these, please do let us know by either speaking to Terri on Monday mornings in the Cabin or by emailing or calling us.  We would love to support our community as much as possible.

Message from Proteus Theatre:  BASINGSTOKE PARADE 24th June

Join us in the Basingstoke Festival Opening Parade.

We are local theatre makers Scratchbuilt Productions, we are well known in the town for our sell out Christmas shows at Proteus Creation Space next door to Fairfields.

We are going to be running workshops in your school, where the young people will create festival bunting and costumes that will feature in the parade in Basingstoke town centre on Friday 24th June.

The parade is celebrating Diversity, there will be giant puppets, music and dancing, you are welcome to join in or you can soak up the atmosphere on the sidelines and it’s completely free.

We would love it if as many families as possible could come and be part of the parade and see the work your child has helped to make on show. Families who have joined in similar past events have loved the experience. It promises to be fun and vibrant for all ages.

The parade will assemble in town at Church Square, which is outside the food- hall entrance to Marks & Spencer, opposite St Michael’s Church, at 4.30pm ready to start at 5pm. When you arrive in Church Square look for your schools sign. The parade will end at the amphitheatre (the area outside The Angel Wetherspoons, Festival Place) where the party will continue with a fabulous live band and dance performances.

We really hope you are able to join in the celebrations on the evening.

Finally, we are in the final stages or organising classes for next year.  We are sad to say farewell to a few members of staff.

Miss White, our Inclusion Manager, is leaving to take up a post as an Assistant Headteacher for Inclusion in a specialist provision.  Miss Leah Moore, a previous teacher in the school, will be returning to fill this position with her experience from a special school background.

Miss Christy is leaving to join the private sector as a classroom teacher.

Mr Carter is retiring at the end of this year.  He has worked alongside Mr Mardell to have a seamless transition.

We are also looking forward to Mrs Bogalski and Mrs Harper who are due to return from maternity in July.  The final staffing structure will be sent out next week.  Your child will find out who their teacher will be on the 14th July in preparation for the Open Evening that day.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Miss Kelly Dillon
