Weekly Update 20

28 March 2022 (by admin)

Dear parents and carers,

Last week gave us a glimpse of Spring and this was enjoyed by everyone.  We are thankful for the weather which allowed Year 2 pupils to visit London where they viewed the city from both the London Eye and also the River Boat Cruise.  Thank you to all of the parents who volunteered all day to help the visit run smoothly.

We hope that everyone showed appreciation to their Mothers or grandmothers over the weekend.  Thank you to Oh Mumma for the wonderful gift for all of the families in the school!

Holi Celebrations

Please do join us after school today (Monday 28th March) between 3:10 – 3:50pm to celebrate the Hindu festival of Holi.  Holi is a celebration of spring and is one of the most colourful festivals in the year.  The activities are free and will be available in the top playground.

Sporting achievements

We are so proud of all of the children who represent the school as part of the netball, football and rugby teams.  All teams took part in matches last week with Fairfields’ netball team winning their first match against St. Johns with 14/2 as their score.  This was a friendly match and we are so proud of the team.

Congratulations to the rugby team who won the Sportsmanship Trophy as part of the Sparkling Rugby League.  They came first out of 24 teams!

Miss Bradley, who coordinates PE in the school, will provide an overview of all of our sporting achievements over the year.

Safety in the playground before and after school

Our Health and Safety Governor conducted a visit on Friday afternoon at pick up time.  There continues to be growing concern that not all parents are keeping their children safe at this time.  Many children are still riding scooters and bicycles in the playground when there can be over 800 people present and some are not wearing cycle helmets, even after being instructed.

For this reason, a member of staff will be at the cycle shelter and asking parents to take scooters and bicycles home if their child has travelled to school on them without wearing a helmet.  We cannot be seen to condone unsafe behaviour.

It was also noted that children continue to use the playground equipment which is not permitted.  As a consequence of parents ignoring the reminders from myself and other members of staff, we will be looking at ways we can restrict access to the equipment using barriers and fencing.

Please can we also ask that parents who have parked near the school, limit their time in the playground as their space may be needed by other parents who need to park to collect or drop off their child.  The Parent Survey has identified this as a concern and we are gathering a view of what other schools in the area do to improve drop off and pick up times.

Finally, we appreciate how challenging times are for families financially; with increased prices of food, fuel and energy.  Please do let us know if you need help as we have access to a range of resources including potential funding for specific items.  In particular, we can help with food and have access to the Food Bank.

We look forward to the week ahead!
