Weekly Update 9

26 November 2021 (by admin)

Dear Parents and Carers

This week has been an eventful week with almost every year group enjoying an activity outside of their normal routine:

Year 1 have really enjoyed visiting the school field and going on a local walk around the school.

Year 1, 2 and 3 have had rugby coaching this week.

Year 4 have received squash coaching.

Year 6 have had science sessions at Queen Mary’s College and also currently having swimming lessons at the leisure centre.

We are really pleased that our school is such a hive of activity!

We continue to have a small number of cases in the school.  In the last ten days, we have received the following confirmed cases which have not changed since last week:

Wrap-Up Fairfields

Thank you to all of the families who donated coats and wellington boots.  This is just in time for the weather warning received today:

There is a 90% probability of severe cold weather between 1800 on Friday 26 Nov and 1500 on Monday 29 Nov in parts of England.

Please note that in the event of snow falling we will clear a path from both gates to the canopy.  All children should come straight into school once they arrive.  The roads and paths around the school are the council’s responsibility and we are not permitted to put grit or ice down in case it damages the surface.

Sporting Spirit

We are so lucky to have such keen sportsman in the school.  Last week our children took part in a football tournament and this week we have taken part in a netball match.  News related to these matches has already been sent out!  Well done to our players – they are great Ambassadors of the school.

Our Year 5 and 6 players took part in their first Sparkling Rugby tournament on Thursday.  They have worked extremely hard to develop a range of tactics to play against the other side.  I am so impressed with how well they played and their display of our Core Values.  In particular, well done to Moussa for scoring both tries.  The other schools have taken part in the league for a number of years and we will play them three more times in the rest of the year.

We have another tournament on the 6th December at St. Marys.  We will be choosing only 12 of our team to take part in this away game.  However, we invite all of the squad that take part in the training to watch and support their team.  We will send a letter to the children who are picked on Monday.  We will then invite other children from the squad to watch if their parents can transport them there.

Young Voices Update

We have made the difficult decision to cancel our involvement in the trip to the O2 in January.  The decision was made due to the increase in risk of terrorist attacks and also our hesitation about unknown COVID infection rate over the winter period.  I know that this will be upsetting for the parents who have given permission for their children to attend and we will issue a full refund next week.

Instead, we will be planning a Spring Concert in April 2022 for them to perform in.  We are hoping to book a venue in Basingstoke to host the performance.  It will involve all musicians and singers in the school.

Christmas Cards

It is that time of year where Christmas cards will soon begin to handed out.  Please can we ask that if you would like to write out cards with your child, that these are given out privately and not via school.

Please respect that some families may have differing levels of confidence than others in relation to COVID.  For example, some parents are shielding for members of their household and will not want a card from another household.

If any parents have any suggestions for this, please let us know.  We will, instead be creating a class card as in previous years.  This will be sent home to each child after it has been isolated for 48 hours.

Have a restful and warm weekend!
